Your two-day Fes to Merzouga desert journey begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel, riad or preferred meeting point in Fes. Leave the city and travel toward the Middle Atlas Mountains. The first stop is Ifrane, a peaceful mountain town known for its clean streets, alpine-style architecture and cooler climate. Continue toward the cedar forests near Azrou. Barbary macaques may sometimes be seen in this region, although wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. The route continues through mountain landscapes and traditional towns before reaching Midelt, where a lunch stop can be arranged depending on the pace of the journey. After lunch, travel through the Tizi n’Talghomt mountain pass and descend toward the Ziz Valley. Stop at a panoramic viewpoint overlooking palm groves, traditional villages and oasis settlements. Continue through Errachidia and Erfoud, a desert town known for fossils, dates and its connection to historic caravan routes. Arrive in Merzouga in the late afternoon.
